Episode 24 of the PodLeaders show

My guest on the PodLeaders show today is Steve Rubel - Steve is a prolific blogger and highly visible PR executive, formerly with CooperKatz and more recently with Edelman.

As usual, here are the questions I asked Steve and the times in the interview at which I asked them:
Steve - first off, congrats on the new job - what’s your title now? 0:30

CooperKatz was an agency of around 20 people, if memory serves, whereas Edelman has hunderds of employees - is there a bit of a culture shock joining such a large company having worked for a small company? 0:54

Why did you join Edelman? 2:15

Does the fact that Edelman has hired you send a message that blogs are now mainstream? 3:06

On the Edelman’s About page it says:
we’re on a mission: to make public relations the lead discipline in the communications mix, because only public relations has the immediacy and transparency to build credibility and trust
What is PR as defined by Edelman? 4:50

How will this move affect you as a blogger? 6:10

Will you be blogging on the Edelman site or will it all be on Micropersuasion.com? - 8:13

You had a podcast with Joseph Jaffe and you left that, have you done much podcasting since then? - 8:39

Will there be more travel involved? - 11:29

At this point Steve turned the tables and started asking me questions about PodLeaders.com!

You will obviously be suggesting blogs and podcasts to your clients in Edelman, will you also be suggesting wikis and Flickr streams, etc. - 18:58

What other Web 2.0 tools do you think will be useful for your clients? - 21:33

The take-up of blogging in Ireland by businesses is quite poor, why do you think US companies took to blogging so quickly and why do you think Irish companies should be blogging? 23:35

Do you unplug from technology often, do you have any non-tech hobbies? - 26:38

I used Apple’s GarageBand 3 to create the sound file for this podcast (after the editing was completed in Audacity) - I’d love to get feedback on the quality of the audio - do you think it was worth the extra step?

Steve Rubel has been consistently on the money with his inbsights into blogging and the changing media scene since I started reading him several months ago. I think he nails a few important points here also. PR will take on an ever greater role in business as advertising declines. Steve’s move to Edelman shows he is ahead of the curve again.

    Great interview, Tom.
