Salim Ismail Podcast - II

The first interview with Salim went really well and received tremendous feedback but there were some points we didn’t touch on, so we decided to do another - this is it! This time Salim addresses how corporations will be moving away from a data centric model towards a more event-driven focus - using a publish and subscribe model.

The show notes for the second interview are here and you can download the podcast here (8.5mb mp3).

I don’t see how this is any different to what EAI vendors have been doing for some time. He mentions TIBCO that I know very well. He’s wrong to say pubsub has been fully deployed in financial services though they’re getting there. There’s a number of problems associated with this. I don’t see how you can commoditise this in the way Salim is talking - you might be able to do things at the edges but you’ll soon run into trouble with all the masses of data already held in mainframe transaction systems. Needless to say, I’m trying to contact him on this.

Web 2.0 is a very interesting idea, where machine talks to machine. For example, I was interested to hear about HRXML for resumes. I wonder how do we find existing schemas for XML? How do we get the right mix of standards and flexibility?
