I recorded an interview with Marc Canter earlier in the week. If you don’t know who Marc is, Marc founded a company called Macromind, which went on to become Macromedia. Nowadays Marc is the force behind the tools being created to allow structured blogging from popular blog platforms. In deference to this, I am publishing this post using the structured blogging plug-in for WordPress.
Here are the questions I asked Marc in the interview and the times at which I asked them:
Who is Marc Canter and what is it you do? - 0:56
What is Digital Lifestyle Aggregation? - 2:41
How did your interest in digital lifestyle aggregation arise? - 3:37
You mentioned structured blogging - 7:01
You can use Ourmedia.org to upload to Archive.org - what else can it do? - 7:45
Is it possible to get stats back from Ourmedia.org? - 9:15
Paul Kedrosky wrote that structured is going to fail because people are lazy - if you think he’s wrong, why do you think he’s wrong? - 10:07
Looking at the WordPress structured Bogging plugin - how many of the fields need to be filled in - 13:01
If I fill out these fields, will they appear in the post that people read, or are they just published in xml? - 13:54
Is the WordPress plugin compatible with WordPress 2.0? - 15:27
Is there a feedback mechanism in place? - 16:02
FrankP left a question - what is your view of the acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe? - 16:43
Damien asked - how will content be preserved, is it stored on the site which aggregated the content? - 17:51
If I later edit the content, how am I guaranteed that anyone who hoovered it up will take and honour the latest edit? - 19:16
Won’t you need a more powerful server to host structured blog hosts (because of all the micro-formats)? - 19:42
You were a lot of hats, how do you balance it all with your family life? - 21:39
Your organisation is multi-cultural - how is that working for you? Is it just about saving money? - 23:21
How are the silk shirts? - 24:29
How do we find existing standard schemas for xml? - 25:23
You said your job is to look to the future - what do you think the world will be like for our kids in 15 years time? - 27:50
What is your favourite gadget? - 29:01
Why are you not using a Tablet PC? - 30:18
You mentioned that you won’t touch anything with an Apple logo on it - what is the reason for this? - 30:40
Why should companies be blogging? - 32:05

Naive hacker eh? Lol. Good interview. Good insight into structured blogging. Loved his comments on Apple.
Tom, thanks for making this great interview available to us.
Just started structured blogging today. Installed the plugin in Wordpress and everything worked flawlessly. I allready listened to the interview they did with Marc Canter at LesBlog in Paris, which was very interesting. But your interview had a lot more of the answers I hoped to get in the other interview.
I’ll do a review in German of “Marc Canter podcast” in my blog.
Best, Raju
* Damien, listening to Marc, I wasn’t quite sure whether he was pro Apple or not - I couldn’t quite read between the lines of what he was saying
* Raju, I’m glad you found the interviews informative. If you want to know more about structured blogging, I suggest you listen to the two interviews I did with Salim Ismail a couple of weeks back.
Thanks for saying you will do a review of the podcast on your site - I look forward to it.
To answer one of the questions in this (belatedly), SchemaWeb is a good site for looking up RDF/XML schemas (not XML as requested). For example, as well as HR-XML, there is the Resume schema.
